Depletion of the renal medullary osmotic gradient following hemorrhagic hypotension in hydropenic rabbits.

چکیده
The influence of blood pressure on the renal medullary osmotic pressure gradient was studied in hemorrhagic hypotension of hydropenic rabbits. Slice analysis was made for urea, sodium and potassium concentrations in the kidney slices. The tissue fluid osmolality was estimated as the sum of the urea concentration and 2•~electrolyte concentrations. A drop of systemic blood pressure, induced by bleeding, resulted in decrements of urea and sodium concentrations with resultant reduced osmotic pressure gradient in the medulla, but did not significantly affect solute and osmotic concentrations in the cortex. A loss of urea from the medulla was more rapid and greater than that of sodium. The reduction of the medullary osmotic pressure gradient became greater as mean blood

DELL, RALPH B., AND ROBERT W. WINTERS. Lactate gradients in the kidney of the dog. Am. J. Physiol. 2 I 3(2) : 301-307. r g67.Previous studies have shown that the inner medulla of the antidiuretic kidney has a higher concentration of lactate than the renal cortex, blood, or urine and that medullary lactate rises even higher during osmotic diuresis. The present study was designed to ascertain whe...
متن کاملUphill transport of urea in the dog kidney: effects of certain inhibitors.
To study the renal medullary transport and accumulation of urea in dogs independent of water transport, we obliterated the medullary electrolyte gradient by a sustained ethacrynic acid diuresis. Infusions of urea were also given at various rates to vary urinary urea concentration. In the steady state, the kidneys were removed, and slices were analyzed for water, urea, and electrolytes. In every...

The systemic and renal hemodynamic responses to NO inhibition with L-NAME were compared in both normotensive, normovolemic rats and in rats following acute hemorrhagic hypotension. Mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) increased in normovolemic as well as in hemorrhaged, hypotensive rats. Systemic vascular resistance (SVR) also increased in both groups but the increase was greater in normotensive ...
متن کاملInvolvement of the 5-HT1A receptor of the cuneiform nucleus in the regulation of cardiovascular responses during normal and hemorrhagic conditions
Objective(s): The 5-hydroxytryptamine1A (5-HT1A) receptor is one of the serotonin receptors in the brain, which regulates cardiovascular responses, especially in hemorrhage. Presence of this receptor in the cuneiform nucleus (CnF) has been shown. The present study evaluates the cardiovascular effect of this receptor of the CnF in normal and hypotensive hemorrhagic rats...
متن کاملIntrarenal Distribution of Blood Flow in Dogs during Hemorrhagic Hypotension
Renal medullary blood flow was well maintained for several hours after blood loss which produced hypotension. Renal cortical blood flow was altered by trauma and mild hemorrhage even though blood pressure remained normal; rate of blood flow through the subcapsular, peritubular capillaries decreased to the level of that in the outer medulla. With further hemorrhage and the development of hypoten...
